If you’re looking for a comfortable and chic stay in Copenhagen, look no further than Villa Copenhagen.

This stunning hotel has everything you need for a lovely stay in the capital of Denmark. From the only outdoor pool in Copenhagen, to a delicious breakfast featuring freshly made pastries from their own bakery – Villa Copenhagen has it all. Learn more about the hotel and our stay below.

The Property & Location:

Villa Copenhagen is set in the former home of Denmark’s post office headquarters which was built in 1912. The historic building was converted into a hotel and Villa Copenhagen opened its doors to traveling guests in 2020.

The grand brick building is a sight to see as you’re walking up to it. And the sights get better as you enter through the doors of the hotel. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by a large airy, light-filled lobby that has lounge seating and a bar.

The hotel is just a four minute walk away from the Copenhagen Central station. When arriving from the airport, you can take a 15 minute train ride to the station, and quickly walk right over to the hotel.

Having the Central station so close also makes it incredibly easy to hop on a bus, train, or metro to get to where you need to go.

Speaking of convenience, Villa is also a four minute walk away from Tivoli Gardens, the world’s 2nd oldest amusement park! (And if you’re lucky, your room might give you a great view of Tivoli’s fireworks show on Wednesday and Friday nights in the summer).

You’ll also be able to easily walk to other surrounding areas in the city – we were able to walk just 15 minutes to the city center, and 30 minutes to Nyhavn.

The Room:

Villa Copenhagen had 390 rooms and suites available to reserve. Rooms at the hotel all exude a warm, modern, open and inviting atmosphere that you can expect from Scandinavian design. European hotel rooms do tend to be on the smaller size, but we thought the Standard King at Villa was a comfortable size for a four day stay. If you’re looking for more space, they do have larger rooms and suites available.

Our room overlooked the courtyard and the pool which we loved. We were also happily surprised to find that we had a great view for Tivoli Gardens’ fireworks show. (During the summer, Tivoli Gardens has a weekly fireworks show on Saturday nights).

Villa has one of the only outdoor rooftop pools in Copenhagen, and it’s a 25 meter lap pool. The pool is also sustainably heated by the Villa’s excess heat from their cooling system. It’s definitely a great amenity to take advantage of during the summer.

The pool area is bookended by a bar on one end, and the sauna on the other.

A 45-minute pool time is included in your stay per night, and you’ll need to reserve your pool time in advance online. You can book additional time at the pool if needed for a fee.

In addition to the pool and restaurants on-site (more on that below), Villa Copenhagen also has a fitness center, sauna, bars, and conference rooms.

The Food:

Let’s start with breakfast. Breakfast was included in our stay since we booked through the I Prefer Member Rate (you can easily become a member of I Prefer online prior to booking). We typically like to enjoy breakfast at local spots in the city, but Villa’s breakfast buffet was too nice to pass up.

There’s ample seating and a variety of food including fresh fruit, cheese, smoked fish, baked goods, a hot station where omelettes are made to order, and more.

Villa’s bakery, Rug Bakery, is open to the public but also provides some freshly baked pastries and bread at Villa’s breakfast buffet so hotel guests can enjoy them with their meal. Do not skip the pastries or bread. I repeat: do not skip the pastries or bread. Their cardamom buns, cinnamon rolls and freshly baked bread are absolutely delicious and it is too easy to fill up on these goodies at breakfast.

The only slight downside to breakfast is that the offerings don’t change much (or at all) day to day. So if you’re staying at Villa for more than a few days, make sure to mix up what you grab at breakfast each day, or visit one of the many delicious places in Copenhagen for breakfast. (Or do what we did and have a small bite to eat at the hotel breakfast, then make your way to second breakfast elsewhere in Copenhagen).

Need ideas for a second breakfast? Try a few of the best bakeries in Copenhagen.

For other meals at Villa Copenhagen, you can visit the Courtyard Bar which serves light meals, coffee and drinks. T37 is another bar on site that has share plates, wine and cocktails.

For dinner, you can visit Villa’s on site restaurant Brasserie Kontrast which serves dinner only and reservations are recommended. The hotel describes the restaurant as a “cosmopolitan brasserie focused on the contrasting flavors of locally grown ingredients.”

The Verdict:

Villa Copenhagen is a fantastic hotel in Denmark’s capital if you’re looking for a stay that’s chic, comfortable and conveniently located.

Something worth noting: if you are a Preferred Member and have status, make sure you state that when you check in so they’re aware. We’ve had a few occurrences now at different hotels where the membership tier isn’t acknowledged at check-in, and benefits might not be given.
